Nanny GPS: About Us
As a family we've enjoyed the experience of having a number of Au Pairs living with us and becoming a part of our own family. Every time though we were looking for a new Au Pair there were a few things about many of the Au Pair / Nanny sites that made me uncomfortable.
The main one was that for a small fee, my contact details, fairly detailed information about the working arrangements of my family, lots of information about the children, family photos and our childcare needs were available to thousands of people on the Internet. I was concerned I was putting myself at risk of identity theft, or indeed putting the children at risk as anyone could tell when they maybe home alone with a young, foreign Au Pair.
The other thing I found confusing was that once my contact details were made available on these sites, I'd receive hundreds of emails from interested Au Pairs. It was very hard to keep track of who each one was as their email address didn't easily tie in with their online profile. It was very time consuming to manage my selection process.
So, we decided to develop our own Au Pair and Nanny site with two key ingredients.
- A secure messaging system that enables you to communicate with interested au pairs and/or nannies without having to share your personal contact details until you are comfortable and ready to do so.
- Tools to help you manage the selection process. These include
- Messages linked to a profile so you can easily see who you are communicating with.
- Ability to create and manage your own folders. You can easily move profiles from one folder to the next. For example, you may create folders called "Not Sure", "Reference Check" etc. You can also add personal notes to each profile to remind yourself of questions you may want to ask, or things you want to check out.
We've also included lots of other functionality including automated alerts, quick and advanced searches, ability to block messages from profiles and much more.
